AGD Systems wins Cotswold Life EMI Award for Best Research & Development Project 2015

AGD Systems wins prestigious innovation award for ‘342’ speed enforcement radar

AGD’s new generation intelligent radar detection system, the groundbreaking ‘342’ speed enforcement radar has scooped a prestigious award at the inaugural Cotswold Life Engineering and Manufacturing Innovation Awards 2015.

Over 400 people packed into Cheltenham Town Hall to hear keynote speaker Professor Lord Battacharyya, Chairman of Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), open proceedings and see AGD’s radar win the top prize for ‘Best Research and Development Project’ in the Cotswold region. The prize covered the large area comprising Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Oxfordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire.

The top of the range ‘342’ intelligent detection radar provides the critical speed and range information required for host enforcement camera systems monitoring vehicles in high-speed motorway environments. It fully integrates with leading provider, Imtech’s photo-based enforcement system which is set to achieve Home Office Type Approval (HOTA) – one of the most stringent standards in the world. The ‘342’ will be deployed in volume to implement the large-scale roll-out of the Smart Motorway scheme throughout the UK.

The judges were particularly impressed with the success of AGD’s ‘342’ research and development project which called on the strengths and expertise of the firm’s talented engineering team and how closely the radar is aligned with AGD’s business growth strategy in both the UK and overseas.

AGD’s Commercial Director Ian Hind said: “We are delighted to have won the award for Best Research and Development Project for our ‘342’ speed enforcement radar amidst some stiff competition. It is wonderful to receive recognition for creating innovative, workable solutions for the traffic and transport industry. This is a huge endorsement of our engineering strength in radar detection innovation.”

The Cotswolds Life EMI Awards were supported by Innovate UK, The EEF, Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), The IET (Institute of Electrical Engineers), Business West, UKTI, Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) The Institute of Directors (IoD), MAS (South West Manufacturing Advisory Service) and Catapult High Value Manufacturing.
